Norine Brown, LCUSA
Norine Brown began her illustrious dance journey in Vancouver, Canada, where she received her foundational training. Her passion for dance then took her to the prestigious Hammond School of Dancing in Chester, England, where she attained diplomas in Modern, National, RAD Ballet, Imperial Ballet, Anatomy, and Ballroom. This diverse and rigorous education set the stage for a remarkable career that saw her join a French touring company, allowing her to perform extensively across Europe. After her touring years, Norine returned to Vancouver and embarked on a fulfilling career as a ballet instructor, sharing her expertise and love for dance with the next generation.
In 1986, Norine relocated to Sacramento, California, with her husband Jeff. Since then, she has continually honed her craft, undergoing advanced training in the Cecchetti method. Her dedication to this discipline led her to serve on the Board of Cecchetti USA (CUSA) and as an active member of the West Coast Committee, roles in which she contributed significantly to the organization’s growth and influence. Now, she continues her commitment to the Cecchetti method as an esteemed examiner for CUSA, where she evaluates and guides the next generation of dancers and instructors, ensuring the highest standards of the Cecchetti tradition are maintained.
Throughout her career, Norine was also a dedicated advocate for the dance community. She played a pivotal role in the Sacramento Area Dance Alliance (SADA) for over 20 years, contributing in various capacities, including as Corresponding Secretary, until the organization concluded its operations. Through SADA, Norine helped provide workshops and scholarships, enabling countless local dance students to pursue their dreams. Her mentorship has guided many of her former students to prestigious careers, with some joining major Canadian and American ballet companies.
Norine finds immense joy in teaching dance to all age groups, whether nurturing the aspirations of those pursuing professional careers or enriching the lives of those who dance for the pure joy of movement. Her commitment to fostering talent and her passion for the art form continue to inspire the dance community both locally and beyond.
